Scientific Method: Boat Day Part 1

Here is a video related to our activity in class. Come to class ready to change or modify your design from today. We will see who's design can hold the most washers without tipping or sinking. Remember the scientific method is all about problem solving and critical thinking.

  1. That was a nice video. I wouldn't of thought to do any of those boats. Now I have an idea of how to build a longer lasting boat.

    1. Great question! I am not sure. Students, how could we figure that out?

    2. we could put lets say 25 washers in a bowl and 25 pennies in a seperate bowl and weigh them both with a food scale. Then, you look at the results and see which one is heavier! Eezy Peezy!!!!!

  20. We could figure it out by research or a controlled experiment. But to figure out the weight of the washer by research you need to know the size of the washer. But weight of the penny by research is 0.09 pounds.

    1. Nice work with the weight of the penny. I have a food scale, how could we use that?

    1. A food scale weighs amounts of food, like a regular scale that measures weight, just a lot smaller.

  22. I know this is a late comment but I just had to comment. I tried some of these things at home and my boat that held the most pennies was like that one guys that was really big and folded in on itself. I think it held around 80-90 pennies so yeah. but this clip is really cool.
